The Kwara State Government on Thursday honoured the late former Super Eagles striker, Rashidi Yekini. Yekini was honoured for his outstanding contribution to sports development. He was among the awardees during the awards and dinner night as part of the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the state tagged, 'Celebrating Harmony, Shaping the Future.' Yekini's sister Similat received the award on behalf of the late sports icon. Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed in his speech said the awards were meant to honour Kwarans both dead and alive to recognise their contributions to different spheres of human endeavours. He added that it was also geared towards spurring young people to greater achievements. Yekini, who was from Kwara State, scored Nigeria's first ever goal at the World Cup in the United States in 1994.
