Saraki's Acquittal: It's a sacrifice by the ruling class to retain power

Date: 2017-06-16

The Joint Action Against Corruption in Kwara (JAACK) has described yesterday's ruling by the Code of Conduct Tribunal absolving the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki of all charges preferred against him in the alleged false declaration of assets as a sacrifice by the ruling class to mend the crack in their walls.

The group in a statement issued in Ilorin on Wednesday by its Organising Secretary, Joe Mahmud said it should come as no surprise to anyone because the events of the past few months have shown where the pendulum will swing.

"We are not surprised at all because we saw it coming. The body language of the ruling party top hierarchy showed that more sacrifices had to be made to ensure the party remains indivisible and retain power.

" Saraki on his part has yielded to more requests while sacrificing principal and committee positions in the Senate to his hitherto arch rivals. We have followed every event very keenly. Who is the majority leader today? Who are those in the committees of petroleum and environment today?"

However, as the judgement has come to stay it does not represent the mood (since it is not an opinion poll) of the vast majority of Kwara residents who are daily re) demanding for good governance.

"We owe our state a duty to consistently demand for good governance, return of live into local government administration and payment of backlog of salaries owed different categories of workers in the state.

"The challenges ahead are daunting and enormous but they are surmountable through focus, commitment and sacrifice from the the good people of the state."

It concluded that every progressive minded Kwaran should contribute to the development of the state within his/her own capacities as the days ahead will deliver the much sought after succour for the masses.
