The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari had constituted the Ilorin Emirate Durbar Committee. With the committee, the annual durbar festival would henceforth be held on the second day of Eid-el-Kabir festivities at the frontage of the Emir's Palace. At the inauguration ceremony in Ilorin, the traditional ruler said the committee was set up to enhance the annual festival and increase participation of Ilorin indigenes. Sulu- Gambari, who spoke through the Chairman of the committee, Engineer Suleiman Alapansanpa, said the rationale behind constituting the committee was to project, preserve and sustain the culture and tradition of Ilorin emirate. The monarch noted that the durbar ceremony was an annual event but the committee was only put in place to accord it a befitting structure and make it attract global attention and participation. Sulu - Gambari, who assured the committee of his support for the success of the annual ceremony, urged members to work assiduously for a hitch free durbar event. The traditional ruler listed the Durbar Committee members to include Engineer Suleiman Yahaya Alapansanpa (chairman), the Director Centre for Ilorin Studies, University of Ilorin, Dr Ibrahim AJawondo (secretary), Justice Idrees Haroon and Justice Solihu Muhammad. Also inaugurated alongside the main committee of the ceremony were sub-committees. Justice Haroon and Justice Muhammad are to head Committee on Religious Affairs, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Baba Adisa Bolanta heads Security Committee, Durbar and Procession Committee is headed by Magaji Nda of Ilorin, Alhaji SalihuMohammed and Serikin Gobir while a former Chairman, Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Muhammed Tunde Akanbi, heads the Publicity Committee of the ceremony.
